How will the event be structured?

Friday 11 August

Session 1: Intelligence. On Friday evening Bamboozled Quizmasters will be hosting our first session of the event. This will be a 2h STEM-based quiz consisting of 4 - 6 rounds. It will be hosted at Perth Mess Hall from 5.30pm.

Saturday 12 August 

Session 2 and 3 will be delivered in the same format at WA Museum Boola Bardip across. Group session will be hosted in Hackett Hall and workshops in the Woodside Learning Studios.

Sessions will be opened with a keynote speaker (40mins), followed by 3 x interactive sessions (30-40mins each), the session will conclude with the group getting back together for a final session.

 

Session 2: Innovation, morning.

Session 3: Inspiration, afternoon.

Who is the target audience?

We're looking to reach young adults (18 - 24) who are not currently studying or working in a STEM based field. We're also looking to reach groups who are historically underrepresented in STEM, such as Women & Girls, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Regional and Remote communities, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse individuals, those who identify as LGBTQI+, and those living with a chronic illness or disability. We'd love to have these groups represented through our speakers. 

 

What are we looking for from speakers and presenters?

First and foremost, we're open to any and all suggestions. We can work with you to develop your idea into a fun and engaging workshop.

For the quiz night we're looking for people who can come up with questions for a quiz round on their choice of STEM based subject who also want to come along and chat to participants about their work on the night. You may also suggest an activity for participants to complete between quiz rounds. 

​

For the Innovation session we're looking for people working on or with innovate projects taking place in WA. Inspire our participants with the work they can get involved in and show them that the STEM industry isn't just for those with PhD's. 

​

Ideas:

• A debate between representatives of various renewable energy sources on which source is the best and why? You don't have to coordinate the whole debate, just put yourself forward by telling us which sector you'd like to represent!

• Bring along a model of what you work on/ with. Get participants to guess what it is, how it works, or work as a team to improve it.

For the Inspiration session we want inspiring individuals or someone whose taken inspiration for a new technology from a different industry to advance their own (i.e. taking inspiration from capabilities in the space industry and applying them to crop research)

Things to consider;​

• This event is intended to be inclusive for all walks of life. Please think about how you could make your session as inclusive as possible. 

• This event is targeting people who may not be engaged with STEM. Ensure your proposed content is suitable for this audience. 

• This Anti-conference is anti-PowerPoints. Think about other visual aids that can be used for keynote speeches and workshops such as eye-catching videos. 

• If you work on a cool project that you think this audience would be interested in but don't know how to turn it into a workshop, still submit an EOI so that we can work with you to create something engaging!
