National Science Week 2026 Grant Recipients Announced


Inspiring WA is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 National Science Week State Grants. These events will take place across Western Australia throughout August, giving communities the opportunity to celebrate and engage with science.

Perth Region


BioZone – BioZone Art-Science Event

Location: Crawley

Explore the connection between science and creativity through an immersive exhibition created by university students. The exhibition shares stories of discovery, failure and innovation through art inspired by scientific research.



City of Gosnells Libraries – National Science Week STEM-tacular

Location: Gosnells

A festival of science featuring live shows, drones, engineering challenges and interactive workshops. Visitors can explore STEM through hands-on activities designed for all ages.



Cockburn Toy Library – Sensory Exploration Saturdays

Location: Coolbellup

Help create a community sensory garden while exploring gardening, sustainability and the natural environment. Families can learn through hands-on activities designed to engage curiosity and connect children with nature.


Currambine Primary School, Bunnings and Edith Cowan University – The Science Buffet

Location: Joondalup

Sample a buffet of hands-on science experiences for the whole family. Each activity station offers a new opportunity to engage with STEM in fun and creative ways.


Joondalup Family Centre – Science in our Everyday Lives

Location: Joondalup

Discover how science is part of everyday life through cooking, gardening and simple experiments. Families will explore STEM concepts together through fun, practical activities that can continue at home.


Kings Park Science – The Hidden Life of Seeds

Location: Perth

Discover the science helping protect Western Australia's unique native plants through an immersive experience at Kings Park.

Visitors will explore how research supports conservation and biodiversity management across the state.


Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire – STEM Programs with SJ Library Services

Location: Serpentine

Hands-on STEM programs for all ages, featuring experienced science presenters and activities that promote STEM learning. Sessions include drones, forensics, marine science, chemistry, slime-making and more.


Syrian Heritage Inc – Everyday Chemistry: Create Your Own Products

Location: Cannington

Discover the chemistry behind everyday products through interactive workshops and practical experiments. Participants will create their own soaps, balms and food products while learning science concepts in a fun and accessible way.


The Wetlands Conservation Society – Blue Gum Turtle Festival

Location: Mount Pleasant

Celebrate the iconic south-western snake-necked turtle through guided walks, interactive activities and real conservation science. Learn how community members can help protect local turtle populations through citizen science.


Transfolk WA – Transfolk WA @ Scitech WA

Location: West Perth

An inclusive after-hours STEM experience designed for trans and gender diverse people to explore science in a welcoming environment. Participants can engage with interactive exhibits, connect with peers and discover pathways into STEM.


South West


Augusta Community Resource Centre – Science at Work in Augusta: What Is Science Good For?

Location: Augusta

Explore how science helps us understand nature, solve problems and improve everyday life. A week of workshops and guided walks will showcase biodiversity, innovation and practical science in action.


Busselton Jetty Inc – Busselton Jetty Marine Science Celebration

Location: Busselton

Explore the wonders of the ocean through family activities, citizen science demonstrations and talks from marine researchers. Discover how marine science is helping protect biodiversity and improve our understanding of the natural world.


Collie Public Library – Astro-Adventure: Mapping the Night Sky

Location: Collie

Take a journey through the universe with expert astronomy guides, telescope viewing and interactive presentations. Participants will learn how to identify planets, stars and constellations in the night sky.


Nannup Garden Village Inc – Grow.Gather.Feast

Location: Nannup

Explore the science behind growing, preserving and preparing food through hands-on workshops and demonstrations. Bringing together gardeners, growers and chefs, the program celebrates sustainable food systems and community knowledge.


Great Southern & Goldfields


Gnowangerup Community Resource Centre – Science Explorers: A Week of Hands-On STEM Fun

Location: Gnowangerup

A week of experiments, challenges and interactive STEM activities designed to inspire young scientists. Participants will build confidence, creativity and problem-solving skills through hands-on discovery.


Hopetoun Community Resource Centre – Hopetoun Marine Science Week 2026

Location: Hopetoun

Dive into marine science through art, citizen science activities, workshops and coastal exploration. The program encourages participants to learn about ocean health and take action to reduce marine pollution.


Katanning Land Conservation District Committee – Mighty Macros!

Location: Katanning

Get hands-on with the tiny creatures living beneath the surface of local waterways. Participants will use scientific equipment to discover macroinvertebrates and learn how they help scientists monitor ecosystem health.


Shire of Coolgardie – Outback Under the Stars

Location: Coolgardie and Kambalda

Experience the wonders of the night sky with expert astronomers and powerful telescopes. Participants will discover planets, galaxies and constellations while learning about astronomy and space science.


Wheatbelt


Kondinin Community Resource Centre – Bringing the Zoo to the Country

Location: Kondinin

Meet native Australian animals and discover the science behind wildlife conservation. The event combines live animal encounters with hands-on biodiversity and habitat-building activities for the whole family.


Shire of Cunderdin – Bee Inspired with STEM

Location: Cunderdin

Learn about the important role bees play in healthy ecosystems and sustainable food production. Hands-on workshops will allow participants to create beeswax products while exploring the science of pollination.


Toodyay Community Resource Centre – Micro to Macro

Location: Toodyay

Spend a day exploring science on Earth and beyond with hands-on STEM activities and an evening astronomy experience. From microscopes and experiments to telescope viewing, there is something for curious minds of all ages.


Mid West


Plants for Space UWA – Plants for Space: Seeding Science from Outback to Outer Space

Location: Geraldton and Carnarvon

Discover how plants could help support life in space while solving challenges on Earth. Through hands-on workshops and interactive exhibits, participants will explore the future of plant science, sustainability and space exploration.


Shire of Gingin – Seeds of Science

Location: Gingin and Lancelin

Young children and families will explore science through sensory play, nature investigations and hands-on discovery activities. The program encourages curiosity while introducing concepts such as sustainability, fossils, crystals and plant science.
